Transition of product samples to the new digital age

AKRITAS S.A.

Brief Challenge Description

The samples produced and made available for product promotion are in the following formats: 1) Fan-shaped Sample Card Palette, 10 x 15 cm, in a thickness of 1 mm 2) Book with customized corresponding product sample cards 3) Single samples of larger dimensions (20 cm x 30 cm), in a thickness of 6 mm. The challenge facing AKRITAS is the transition of its sampling production and management to the new digital age.

Expected Results from the Solution

This transition entails a) The use of new high-performance technologies and product simulation (3D printing etc). b) End2end integration of production and distribution of samples, meeting the needs of Marking, Traceability, Performance Measurement, Replaceability, etc. For AKRITAS, any idea that will meet the above requirements/aspects is welcome. Special focus will be given to the ideas that consider the aspects of AI and Smart Integration of Requirements.

Corrosion Potential Determination in Extruded Aluminium Profiles

ALUMIL S.A.

Corrosion Potential Determination in Extruded Aluminium Profiles

ALUMIL S.A.

Brief Challenge Description

Aluminium-made constructions are widespread since aluminium is highly resistant to corrosion. Techniques like powder coating can improve the constructions’ behavior and aesthetics but the combination of aluminium’s intermetallic compounds with high humidity, high salinity and pollution can lead to corrosion.

Thus, a new testing methodology, deriving from electrochemistry and metallurgy, could focus on the metal itself and precisely predict the corrosion potential in extruded aluminium profiles.

Expected Results from the Solution

Having this methodology, one could examine the corrosion potential and decide whether certain aluminum profiles should be used for buildings near zones that have a highly corrosive environment, such as coasts and highly polluted areas.

This will help produce architectural systems with a longer lifespan which in turn leads to more sustainable buildings.

Digital Moisture Measurement Tools for Seedcotton Mass

BIOS AGROSYSTEMS S.A.

Digital Moisture Measurement Tools for Seedcotton Mass

BIOS AGROSYSTEMS S.A.

Brief Challenge Description

The aim is to measure the moisture of the cotton bunch, from loading to its ginning. This check is done at a depth of around 1 meter, at the center of the transportation means. In research, new technologies like sim-sized RF sensors have been used for this process. They were placed in the center of the load, where they provided information about the product's moisture. However, they could also provide information on identification and tracking. These sensors can be used only once, and they are thrown away afterwards.

Expected Results from the Solution

The development & manufacture of new portable devices like RF sensors or any other technologies that could be used for moisture control during transportation and storage before ginning.

Eco-Material for aquaculture net impregantion, replacing antifouling

DIOPAS S.A.

Eco-Material for aquaculture net impregantion, replacing antifouling

DIOPAS S.A.

Brief Challenge Description

The prolonged period that the FISH nets stay under the water, enables micro-organisms and bacteria to stick on the nets and clog their holes, making it difficult for oxygen to circulate and thus the fish cannot breathe properly. To keep the net in the sea clean for a longer period, we impregnate it with the special paint, named Antifouling (which contains copper oxide). It is an approved material with all the necessary certifications, suitable for use in the sea.

Expected Results from the Solution

The creation/invention of a new even more ecological material for impregnating nets is a great challenge for the FISH nets and the protection of the marine ecosystem. The goal is to create a new net impregnation material that is equally, or even more effective than the existing one, fulfilling its double mission: to keep the nets clean in the sea while protecting the aquatic environment.

Energy mix management to reduce the company’s carbon footprint

ISOMAT S.A.

Energy mix management to reduce the company’s carbon footprint

ISOMAT S.A.

Brief Challenge Description

First, the software will determine the energy requirements of ISOMAT's central facilities based on plant production scheduling. Then, it will identify the optimal energy mix combining different energy sources; power from the grid, from the PV station and through waste-to-energy (WtE) processes. In the latter one, the resulting calorific value and derivatives must be calculated to achieve full reuse & zero waste.

Expected Results from the Solution

We expect that this newly developed software will provide us with a statistical model for reducing our carbon footprint.
